چکیده

We present a 1-loop toroidal membrane winding sum reproducing the conjectured M-theory, four-graviton, eight derivative, R amplitude. The U -duality and toroidal membrane world-volume modular groups appear as a Howe dual pair in a larger, exceptional, group. A detailed analysis is carried out for M-theory compactified on a 3-torus, where the target-space Sl(3,Z)× Sl(2,Z) U -duality and Sl(3,Z) world-volume modular groups are embedded in E6(6)(Z). Unlike previous semi-classical expansions, U -duality is built in manifestly and realized at the quantum level thanks to Fourier invariance of cubic characters. In addition to winding modes, a pair of new discrete, flux-like, quantum numbers are necessary to ensure invariance under the larger group. The action for these modes is of Born-Infeld type, interpolating between standard Polyakov and Nambu-Goto membrane actions. After integration over the membrane moduli, we recover the known R amplitude, including membrane instantons. Divergences are disposed of by trading the non-compact volume integration for a compact integral over the two variables conjugate to the fluxes – a constant term computation in mathematical parlance. As byproducts, we suggest that, in line with membrane/fivebrane duality, the E6 theta series also describes five-branes wrapped on T 6 in a manifestly U-duality invariant way. In addition we uncover a new action of E6 on ten dimensional pure spinors, which may have implications for ten dimensional super Yang–Mills theory. An extensive review of Sl(3) automorphic forms is included in an Appendix.

On tensor product $L$-functions and Langlands functoriality

‎In the spirit of the Langlands proposal on  Beyond Endoscopy ‎we discuss the explicit relation between the Langlands functorial transfers and automorphic $L$-functions‎. ‎It is well-known that the poles of the $L$-functions have deep impact to the Langlands functoriality‎. ‎Our discussion also‎ ‎includes the meaning of the central value of the tensor product $L$-functions in terms of the Langl...

The Structure of Automorphic Loops

Automorphic loops are loops in which all inner mappings are automorphisms. This variety of loops includes, for instance, groups and commutative Moufang loops. We study uniquely 2-divisible automorphic loops, particularly automorphic loops of odd order, from the point of view of the associated Bruck loops (motivated by Glauberman’s work on uniquely 2-divisible Moufang loops) and the associated L...

Searching for Small Simple Automorphic Loops

A loop is (right) automorphic if all its (right) inner mappings are automorphisms. Using the classification of primitive groups of small degrees, we show that there is no non-associative simple commutative automorphic loop of order less than 2, and no non-associative simple automorphic loop of order less than 2500. We obtain numerous examples of non-associative simple right automorphic loops. W...

Three Lectures On Automorphic Loops

These notes accompany a series of three lectures on automorphic loops to be delivered by the author at Workshops Loops ’15 (Ohrid, Macedonia, 2015). Automorphic loops are loops in which all inner mappings are automorphisms. The first paper on automorphic loops appeared in 1956 and there has been a surge of interest in the topic since 2010. The purpose of these notes is to introduce the methods ...

k-hypermonogenic automorphic forms

In this paper we deal with monogenic and k-hypermonogenic automorphic forms on arithmetic subgroups of the Ahlfors-Vahlen group. Monogenic automorphic forms are exactly the 0-hypermonogenic automorphic forms. In the first part we establish an explicit relation between k-hypermonogenic automorphic forms and Maaß wave forms. In particular, we show how one can construct from any arbitrary non-vani...
